FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q: Can I use a different voltage than what is stated for the light?
A: No. You must ALWAYS ensure the correct voltage is used.

Q: What is the best way to install the radiant light?
A: Attach with one screw in the bank of 3 holes on the base. Then pivot to position.

Q: Can the radiant light be used outside?
A: The radiants are not exterior fitting, but have been successfully used under protected, covered eaves.

Q: Will the radiant fail if I have a power surge?
A: The radiants are surge protected to cover variations in DC generator outputs. However, best practice is to have all power going through the vehicle battery, which acts as a current conditioner.

Q: What is the recommended night sailing light ratio of white to red radiant light?
A: Generally a 1 to 4 ratio of red to white light can be used, as red light penetrates further.

Q: Can I get spares for my radiant lights?
A: Yes. Scottlamp stock a full range of spares. Just contact us and we will advise you.

Q: My SLUL won't work, any suggestions?
A: Firstly, the SLUL is pole protected and won't work correctly if incorrectly wired. If it doesn't work check if the LED is lit on the cigar plug. If it isn't lit check the connection and fuse. If the power is on and the SLUL still doesn't work, please contact us and we will arrange a replacement.

Q: I have noticed that water seems to get inside the SLUL handle. Will this affect its use?
A: Water will ingress in the handle of the SLUL, and this does not affect the operation of the lamp, as all electronics are sealed within the lens.

Q: What depth of water is the SLUL tested to?
A: The SLUL is tested to a depth of 1m for 30 minutes (IPX7). The 'X' is for dust ingretion, which is not specified on these products.

Q: What types of mounts are the dolfin lights available in?
A: The dolfin is available in flush and surface mount options. Each uses the same base.

Q: What are the tails referred to in the dolfin description?
A: The tails refer to the 2 leads (red & black), which are connected to the positive (red) and negative (black) DC power supply.
